Should I own the dataset?

I have created a dataset request in github for a dataset, but I was a bit confused, since as I understood from the template, I should be the author of it, but I am clearly not. I just found it online, and although the user needs to accept the licenses, it seems to be a public dataset.

BTW, does anybody know if this dataset is already available in GEE?

Thanks in advance.

Great question @rodrigo no you do not have to be the author of a dataset for that to be added to the community catalog in fact this exactly why the Github issues has different issue types for those bringing their own data vs those bringing any data

Public datasets are still under a variety of license., the community catalog is build around the concept that if you are submitting the dataset request you will try to help out by providing dataset description, dataset size and license type. This is because currently its a team of one only me who runs the whole community catalog hence the request to users to dig and search for the data

This helps me sort through and choose which ones I can include into the catalog. I see the ticket you submitted and no that dataset is currently not part of the community catalog or earth engine. The closest to this one is this 30m annual product from 1985-2022

Really hope that helps answer your question
